Technology from our grandparents' time,👴
There is an "app" or a "smart" device for almost any task these days, a few years ago our grandparents and ancestors worked using very amazing technologies.
Those things were not electronics, but practical engineering combined with nature.Today, let's look at some of those wonderful technologies that were used back then, but are now dying out.
1. Natural refrigerator: clay pot
We have fridges today, back then, we used clay pots to cool water. As the water evaporated through the pores in the clay, the water inside the pot simply cooled. They also used "sand bags" (a method using clay layers and wet sand) to preserve vegetables. This is like a natural AC that works without electricity.
2. The "sun disk" and shadow that looked at the time
In the days when there were no watches, farmers working in the fields used their own shadows to tell time. They calculated the time when the shadow reached their feet as 12, and the length of the shadow, they accurately calculated other times. Also, "Sun disk" can still be seen in some ancient temples today.
Sun Disk3. "Chemical methods" and fumigation instead of insecticides
There were no poisonous pesticides like today. Instead, they used herbal extracts and "chemical methods" traps: Catching animals by lighting lamps in the middle of the field.Fumigation: Protecting crops by burning things like cohosh and sulfur.
4. Communication with "hoo" and drumming
There was no signal back then to send a message to someone who was many kilometres away. Messages were sent from one mountain to another by saying "hu" to different tunes. Similarly, messages were distributed in the village by beating the "command drum".People understood whether it was a funeral or a government announcement based on each drum beat.
5. Building technology: clay walls and thatched roofs
Even though we use AC today to reduce the heat inside the house, back then, the mud-walled and thatched houses were very cool inside, even in the hottest of days. This is pure "Eco-friendly" architecture.
A final
Our grandparents' technology may have been simpler than today's, but everything was environmentally friendly. As we move forward with modern technology, we need to be aware of the intelligent methods our ancestors possessed.
Are there any other wonderful methods like this that you've heard from your grandparents?
