Our motherland, which had been under foreign rule for over 400 years, gained full independence from on February 4, 1948. Behind this freedom that we enjoy today lies a great body of sacrifice.

Freedom is not a gift that we received by chance. Our leaders worked together for it, regardless of race or religion.

Current Responsibility

True freedom is not just about freedom from foreign rule. It is about being economically independent as a country and living in harmony. It is the responsibility of all of us living today to leave a better, more prosperous Sri Lanka to the children born tomorrow.
